IDAHOT - 2022 Pune

a day long workshop on understanding accessible, affordable and informed Medical care, Mental Health care and Legal Aid to the LGBTQIA+ community. International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia is observed on May 17 and aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness of LGBT rights violations and stimulate interest in LGBT rights work worldwide.

The Purpose of IDAHOT- 2022 The Pandemic brought home one fact – that the LGBTQIA+ community was far more vulnerable to unexpected Social crises like COVID. Access to medical, legal and mental health support was hard to come by. Due to the lockdown, many were forced to stay in unwelcome and unsafe situations – even with families that denied them basic acceptance of their identities. In such a social crisis, the overall mental health state of LGBTQIA community gets affected more than ever. In recognition of this, IDAHOT declares the theme for 2022 as an assertion and a multidimensional advocacy - “Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights”. All humans deserve the right to live our sexualities, to express our gender(s) freely - without being subjected to atrocities like physical violence, so-called conversion “therapies”, or forced sterilizations. Our bodies are our lives, and we have a right to live free and in dignity! By organizing IDAHOT 2022 in Pune this year, we also aim to generate a visible and accessible pool of competent and affordable Doctors, Lawyers and Mental Health workers – to support, guide, and help the LGBTQIA+ community. We are hosting Panel discussions, Focus groups, interactions and purposeful performances - to help recognize problem areas, and to propose the best solution. This is an outcome-based event and is meant to provide insights into how a supportive ecosystem can be generated. While this is a free workshop, it is mandatory to register for the same to help us make the best arrangements. Who is IDAHOT 2022 meant for? · Diversity and Inclusion leaders and Allies · Doctors · Lawyers · LGBTQIA Community members · Social Workers · Mental Health Workers Venue: MCCIA, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune. About Your Host A colorful personality, Niki knows how to make her quirks work for her and others. She has been a social entrepreneur, comedian (in her much-loved The MadBai character), anchor, storyteller, writer, creator, & mental health worker. She is also the founder of CFCT (The Center for Creative Transformation), which organizes the annual Vibrancy Festival in Pune – with the much-acclaimed ‘Pune Happiness Dialogues’. Niki works across communities and organizations to create support, safe spaces, guidance, and provides diversity consulting through various contextual initiatives. Currently Niki is developing an organized ecosystem for the same – The OG Railroad – an organized support system for LGBTQIA+ (The network name ‘The Over-Ground Railroad’ is an homage to the historical Under-Ground Railroad which provided support and directions to those who sought freedom).
