The 50th Sukhan today


When pure poetry melts into the Urdu language which again melts into Sufi music; gives birth to Sukhan; directed by actor, poet Om Bhutkar Sukhan. As poet Kahlin Gibran says : “Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky, We fell them down and turn them into paper,That we may record our emptiness.” Sukhan is a like a tree with poems that graces the sky. Its happiness, its contentment, it's compassion. Come witness Sukhan in it's 50th show in a mesmerizing evening. "Sukhan is a 3 hours long performance (mehfil) with a short interval, enriched by the plethora of compositions of Urdu literature, Hindustani Classical music and Sufi music. A performance enriched by gems like Urdu story telling (Daastaan-goi), recitation of Ghazals and Nazms, recitation of Urdu prose, musical rendition of Ghazals and Qawwalis."

The content of the show changes with every performance drawing from the vast treasure of Urdu literature and Shayari by Saahir Ludhiyanavi, Hafiz Jalandhari Joan Eliya, Faiz ahmed Faiz, Mirza Ghalib, Ameer Khusrow, Meer taqi Meer, Mujtaba Hussain, Dagh Dehlavi, Muhommad Iqbal, Nida Fazli and many more. There is also a constant interaction between the audience and the artists. The artists can participate in response to artists questions.

Sukhan has been performed in Ringan, an initiative by Aasakta Theatre Group, Muktachhanda, an initiative by Fergusson College. It has also been staged all over Maharashtra and in Delhi as well. It was also the inaugural performance at the Vinod and Sarayu Doshi National Theatre Festival, Pune in February 2016 as well as performing in Pune NatyaSattak 2016.

Sukhan also played at Jashn-E-Rekhta Urdu festival in February 2017 and December 2017. Recently, it was alo performed at Doha-Qatar in September 2017 and in Abu Dhabi in March 2018.
