SYNOPSIS
Just Assassins is based on a true story. It breaks open with a plan to , assassinate the Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich in 1905. The play deals with the moral issues which are associated with murder. The 'justes' meticulously plan to throw the bomb at the Duke and Kaliayev [protagonist] takes the onus of throwing the bomb. But he refuses to throw the bomb as he finds the Duke's nephew and niece in the carriage. The protagonist of the play affirms his love for life.
The play is a directorial debut by well known theatre and film actor Girish Pardeshi. Some of other of Camus's works are "The Outsider" and "The Myth of Sisyphus." Chatting about the play, the director Girish Pardeshi says "I have always admired Albert Camus's work, be it Caligula, The Plague, Stranger, The Outsider or the Myth of Sisyphus. I read this play in 2015 and this play was haunting me since then. But now that the things have fallen in place and I am doing it."Girish told Rasa Aur Drama that Camus is known for his theory about Existentialism, Nihilism and Absurdity. He feels every human being goes through these aspects of life. He finds them an inseparable part of human life. Besides, no one is doing Camus's works in the city. Theplay was written way back in 1949 but the story is universal.

ADAPTATION
The script has been adapted keeping in mind the Indian context and storytelling. The actual script had five acts but the script has been edited keeping in mind the time. The script in itself is so complete and adapting it became quite a challenge.
CASTING
Actors with certain personality traits were sought after; who are active in local theatre.
DIRECTION
The play by Girish is very close to him and an extension of himself, though at heart he is an actor. The rehearsals for the play was quite fun. Even the audience for the director is open, receptive, admiring and aware. He is also seeing Hindi theatre blossoming in the city.
Best of wishes to the team, and do go for the show!
